The RTC is planning transportation improvements in the Virginia Street corridor

The RTC is planning transportation improvements in the Virginia Street corridor including the installation of a raised median on South Virginia Street between Liberty Street and Vassar Street. The raised median in this narrow segment of the project will help to maintain traffic flow and improve safety by eliminating left turns at driveways and some adjoining side streets. The use of raised medians is increasing in urban areas. As these treatments were implemented along urban and suburban arterials in Utah and Texas, the Utah Department of Transportation and Texas Department of Transportation performed economic impact studies on the effects of raised median installation on adjacent businesses. The case studies have generally shown that there have been no adverse effects on businesses following the installation of raised medians and the associated changes in access.
